New Girl is going to the future. Well, sort of. The quirky FOX sitcom will be entering its second season in the fall, and one episode will feature a bit of future shock for Nick. The character will be encountering an older version of himself the second episode of season 2, and according to The Hollywood Reporter, the elder version of the character won't be played by actor Jake Johnson in make-up. Instead, he'll be played by Justified actor Raymond J. Barry.
Barry will play a character who claims to be an older version of inventor Nick. When he shows up at Nick's bar claiming to be from the future, Nick is fascinated to hear the drunken man's version of his future.
Television viewers will best know Barry for playing Arlo Givens, father of protagonist Raylan Givens (Timothy Olyphant) on FX's drama series Justified. It's currently unclear whether or not Barry will be returning to that series after the events of the show's third season finale, but filming for New Girl certainly won't interfere with Justified's fourth season (which premieres early next year).
Barry has also appeared on LOST as Jack's grandfather Ray, and has had recurring roles in Cold Case, Law & Order, CSI, and Alias.
New guest stars for New Girl's second season include Parker Posey, Anna Maria Horsford, and Nelson Franklin.
Do you like the idea for Barry's character? Are you excited for New Girl season 2?
New Girl will premiere its second season September 25 on FOX.
