Saturdays on ABC use to be dedicated to “The Wide World of Sports” and Saturday morning cartoons, today every major network uses this day for local fluff you can only catch on the weekends. ABC apparently is the only network swooping in on the potential gold mine of viewers with nothing to watch on Saturday afternoons, introducing a new reality series in January.
According to Deadline, ABC has picked up a reality series developed by Budweiser. Now, don’t get your hopes up, it really has little to do with beer other than those participating, and watching, probably love to drink it. Instead, the show focuses on people who have sports and entertainment-related dreams that want to bring them to life.
"These shows offer a compelling trifecta - sports, entertainment plus viewer engagement via social media," ESPN’s Senior Director of Programming Jason Bernstein, told the publications. "It's a unique blend of content, and we're pleased Budweiser came to us with the opportunity to present it on ABC.”
There’s no official description of the show available beyond this, but in my mind I can’t help but imagine a grown up version of MTV’s “Made.” Perhaps we’ll see some adults having one more chance at joining the Green Bay Packers, even if it’s just during practice, or a good karaoke singer will have their chance at opening for a big star like Jason Aldean.
The good news is you don’t have to wait long to find out. This new reality show debuts January 21 at 3 p.m. on ABC.
