U.K. consumers have new way to access HBO programs

HBO

Attention United Kingdom HBO viewers. A new deal has been reached to bring broadcast offerings to you, through an arrangement with HBO Entertainment U.K. and digital movie service blinkbox.

Blinkbox is set to challenge Netflix and Amazon's LoveFilm in the U.K. marketplace, having previously announced a pact with Disney.

British consumers will have the ability to buy the second seasons of Game of Thrones and Boardwalk Empire via the service prior to their release on DVD and Blu-Ray, according to the Hollywood Reporter story.

Both individual episodes and entire seasons will be available for purchase, without the necessity of having a subscription to HBO.

Also included in the arrangement will be True Blood, Band of Brothers and the Pacific. Those programs will be available for purchase this coming Monday, with Sex and the City, the Wire, the Sopranos, Big Love and Bored to Death coming soon as well. More shows are likely to be announced soon.

Michael Comish, blinkbox CEO, called the partnership "huge news for blinkbox" and its customers.

“This just adds to all that makes blinkbox great: the latest movie releases available without subscription, and now acclaimed TV series before they are available anywhere else in the U.K.," said Comish.

To our readers in the U.K. - how will this new change your HBO viewing habits, if at all?
