It’s been a rough week for Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson as the football-turned-reality tv star lost his upcoming NFL contract, reality show and wife after a recent domestic violence arrest. Johnson was arrested over the weekend after allegedly head butting his wife, Basketball Wives star Evelyn Lozada.
The pair were married just one month before the incident. Due to the success of Basketball Wives, the newly weds were to be featured in the upcoming reality series Ev and Ocho. However, VH1 pulled the show from its Sept. 3 premiere, issuing the following statement:
"Due to unfortunate events over the weekend and the seriousness of the allegations, VH1 is pulling the series Ev and Ocho from its schedule and has no current plans of airing it."
Shortly after the Miami Dolphins announced that they also released Johnson from his contract. This year Johnson said would be his ‘comeback’ year. However, his bad boy ways seems to have gotten the best of him again. In an HBO documentary Hard Knocks, his downfall was documented showing that it was the arrest that was the final straw.
Head coach Joe Philbin explained his decision, "It's not really just last night. It's where we are as a program, and where you are, and where we're headed. I just don't see the mesh right now. I wish it was different. I wish I could tell you something more encouraging, but I just think it's best for both of us that we kind of part ways at this point in time. It's not like I'm trying to flex my muscle, to say, 'I'm the head coach, and let's make an example of Chad Johnson.' It has nothing to do with that. It's more about how you fit in, and how we fit in together, and where this thing is heading. Just don't see it being where I thought it would be or what I hoped it would be. I'm sure it's not good news; it's not good news for us, either. But I'm certain you can overcome this thing."
TMZ reported today that Lozada has filed for divorce as well following the arrest. Lozada filed the divorce papers in Florida citing that the marriage is “irretrievably broken” and that the couple did have a prenup.
