Mindy Kaling made the wise decision to leave The Office for a fresh project to air on Fox Tuesdays. The half-hour comedy, The Mindy Project, follows a single OB/GYN physician, Mindy Lahiri (Kaling) as she juggles a personal and professional life. In Kaling fashion fans can expect witty one liners that poke fun at stereotypes and pop culture. Unlike on The Office, Kaling does not intend to use humor to draw attention to her American-Indian roots or the diversity of culture in America.
One significant aspect to the story is Mindy's love life. Throughout the series it's likely that men will come and go, and we can now confirm that Step Up Revolution actor Tommy Dewey is the first boyfriend we will grow to love (or hate). Dewey will play Josh Daniels, a hard lawyer who always gets what he wants. Good news for Mindy- this successful young professional has his eyes on only her! Daniels will appear as a recurring role through the first part of the season. Aside from his role in the popular dance movie franchise, Dewey appeared on ABC's short-lived sitcoms, Better With You and Roommates, as well as The CW's failed drama The Mountain.
We can only wait to see if Lahiri is a little more lucky in love than Kaling’s character on The Office. Though she is madly in love with her on-again/off-again boyfriend Ryan, Kelly Kapur is not the brightest when it comes to love. She wants passion and loyalty, but goes after men who offer her anything but this. It seems that Lahiri is not only smarter than Kapur, but also more motivated and level-headed.
With The Mindy Project nestled between New Girl and Raising Hope, it’s destined for success on Fox’s night of comedy. The Mindy Project premieres Sept. 25.
