Have you been looking for another comedy series that's so tonally dark you're not sure if you're supposed to be laughing or crying? Well, don't worry -- IFC has got your back. After the strange Incredibly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret came to a violent end earlier this year, the network is back with a new comedy series aimed right at the face of that dark comedy's audience. It's subtly titled Bullet in the Face.
Like 'Todd Margaret,' there doesn't appear to be anyone to really root for in this series. Here's the synopsis, courtesy of IFC: "Bullet in the Facetells the story of sociopath criminal Gunter Vogler who is forced to assume the identity of a cop he shot and work undercover to take down the city’s crime lords (Eddie Izzard and Eric Roberts)." You can watch the trailer for the series here.
A new clip from the third episode of the series has been released, which features Eddie Izzard. Izzard, a wonderful British comedian known for his work in FX's The Riches and the Ocean's Eleven films, appears here as a drug lord who waxes philosophic about chess and the gender of his unborn baby.

The aesthetics of the clip are actually rather great, with the black-and-white motif of the chess game echoed throughout the room. And Izzard, of course, is as melodramatically brilliant as always. IFC is using him as a selling point for the series, and it's easy to see why: he's great.
Bullet in the Face will premiere in two parts. The first three episodes of the six-episode series will air Thursday, August 16 starting at 9/8c. The final three episodes will air the next day, Friday, Agust 17, at 9/8c.
