The CW's new superhero series Arrow is gaining quite a big Rogue's Gallery. The series, which stars Stephen Amell as Oliver Queen/Arrow, a vigilante based on DC Comics' Green Arrow, is slated to premiere on the CW this fall, filling the superhero TV show void left by the recently departed Smallville. The series has already cast several villains, including baddie Deadshot and a mysterious new character played by John Barrowman, for the first few episodes of its freshman series. Now, the series is gearing to give Arrow a love interest in the form of The Huntress, a fellow vigilante who, according to Entertainment Weekly, "[is] the daughter of a mafia boss who vows revenge after her family is murdered."
Huntress, a.k.a. Helena Bertinelli, “is a potential love interest for Oliver Queen; a fellow vigilante, set on destroying her father’s organized crime empire. But Helena’s blind pursuit of revenge will put her on a collision course with the Arrow," according to the official character description. Like the aforementioned Deadshot, The Huntress was more of a staple of the Batman mythos than Arrow's, but the CW series is borrowing liberally from various aspects of the DC Universe to fill the demands of the story.
The Huntress will be played by Australian actress Jessica De Gouw, in her first major American role. The character will reportedly pop up as early as episode 6, and will likely become a recurring feature of the show in the future.
Obviously, De Gouw's relatively unknown status makes it difficult to tell whether or not she's right for the role. In any case, she'll join several other distinguished Australian actresses on network television, including Fringe's Anna Torv and Once Upon a Time's Emilie de Ravin.
What do you think? Do you think The Huntress will make a good love interest for Arrow? Do you think De Gouw has the right look for the role?
Arrow will premiere on the CW October 10.
