Entertainment Weekly offers Sneak Peeks at Walking Dead season 3

The characters on AMC's mega-hit "The Walking Dead" are going to war in season 3... and it won't only be against the zombies. "This season is really about setting up these two worlds and watching them come to a head and collide," says Executive Producer Robert Kirkman; "and you know that there are going to be some pretty explosive encounters between Rick and the Governor."

Fans of the long-running Image Comics serial (which just released its 101st issue) have been debating and speculating about how Rick's confrontation with the Governor for months. While we all have to wait for the thrills and spills to unfold, Entertainment Weekly has released four variant covers for this week's issue depicting the key players on both sides of the 3rd season conflict.

When describing the inevitable showdown between Rick and the Governor, Kirkman made it apparent that the stakes for these characters couldn't be any higher. "This season is going to be about getting to know these two characters, and then waiting for their eventual confrontation that could destroy everything," Kirkman continued, speaking of the plot of the comic book in order to build suspense in the show, rather than fearing the dreaded 'spoiler.'

What is made clear by these covers is that the costume and character design has been drawn directly from the comic book, with even miniscule details included that are sure to delight loyal fans. With a proven track record of bringing the comic to life while deviating from the source material enough to still shock us each week, season 3 is shaping up to be even more action-packed than the previous two.

How can I tell that from these images, you ask? Well for starters, Rick is holding his revolver in his left hand....
