After a stellar, surreal outing in last week's "Dad," FX's Louie returns tonight to the storyline left off by "Daddy's Girlfriend," the two-part episode that saw him going on a date with a fascinating woman.
"Looking for Liz/Lilly Changes" has a vague synopsis in its press release: "Louie searches for a lost love and then for his daughter." That lost love, as it turns out, is Liz (Parker Posey), the mysterious bookstore clerk who took Louie for one of the wildest dates of his life earlier this season. She made him try on a dress (but not to make fun of him), took him to a mouthwatering fish restaurant, helped out a homeless person, and took him to a rooftop, where she told him that she was having too much fun in life to even consider suicide (which she alleged was not true of Louie). After finally revealing her name to him (Liz, not Tape Recorder as she had teased him earlier), Liz exited the rooftop -- and, it had appeared, due to Louie's serialized nature, the show.
But she's the focal point of at least half of tonight's episode, with her name even appearing in the title. But why is Louie looking for her, you ask? Why doesn't he just go back to the bookstore where he met her?
Well, as this sneak peek of the episode reveals, she quit her job at the bookstore. Louie, still enamored with her in spite (or because of) her antics on their first date, tries in vain to find her. When he finds out she quit, he almost gives up -- until her replacement, played by indie darling Chloe Sevigny, urges him to start searching for her.
"Do you want me to help you?" she asks.
"Maybe this just isn't meant to be," he replies.
"No," she argues. "Make it meant to be."
I like her already.
While this is the first time for Sevigny to appear on an FX series this year, it won't be the last; she's nabbed a role in October's American Horror Story: Asylum, though we can imagine that her role in Louie is much happier.
Do you think Louie will find Liz?
Louie airs "Looking for Liz/Lilly Changes" tonight at 10:30/9:30c on FX.
