Who Watches "Suburgatory"? Well, "Watchmen" fans might if the ABC comedy’s latest casting decision pays off. Malin Akerman, who played Silk Spectre II in the big screen hit, has been cast in a key guest-starring role for the sitcom's fall season.
After an extensive search, the film and television star was pegged for the role of Alex, the estranged mother of "Suburgatory" teenager Tessa (Jane Levy). Alex visits the fictional town of Chatswin during the coming season's Thanksgiving and Christmas episodes with the hopes of forging a connection with her daughter over the holidays.
Series creator Emily Kapnek tells TV Line, “I’m a huge, nerdy fan [of Malin's]...She’s funny, gorgeous and incredibly charismatic, and I know her chemistry with Jeremy Sisto and Jane Levy is going to be off the charts. Malin is a comedy writer’s dream, both beautiful and comedically fearless. I’m over the moon about her agreeing to play Alex.”
Akerman's career got its start in television, with an early lead role in Lisa Kudrow's short-lived HBO series "The Comeback." Since then, her resume has grown to include additional television spots, including a role in Cartoon Network's "Children's Hospital", as well as film roles in "Couples Retreat", "Wanderlust", and "The Heartbreak Kid".
The sophomore comedy makes its season premiere Oct. 17 at 9:30/8:30c on ABC.
