SyFy's groundbreaking MMO-television hybrid "Defiance" has just added another cast member. Animation World Network reports that actress Brittany Allen, best known for her Emmy-winning role on "All My Children," joins the population of the post-apocalyptic Earth as Tirra, a troubled employee of the town madam, Kenya.
Allen joins other stars of the SyFy series such as Grant Bowler, Julie Benz, Stephanie Leonidas, Tony Curran, Jaime Murray, Graham Greene, Mia Kirshner (who portrays the aforementioned Kenya) and Fionnula Flanagan. The series is produced by such science-fiction stalwarts as Kevin Murphy (“Caprica”), Michael Taylor (“Battlestar Galactica”) and Rockne S. O’Bannon (“V”, “Alien Nation”, “Farscape”).
"Defiance" is set in a near future in which Earth as we know it has been terra-formed following the less-than-peaceful arrival of seven unique alien races. The post-apocalyptic story takes place in the titular town of Defiance, built on the ruins of St. Louis
The show is a unique venture in that it simultaneously will launch an MMO (Massive Multi-player Online) video game that will involve aspects of the television series. The drama of the series will inform on the possibilities of the game and vice versa, with the two evolving as one overall story. Both the series and the video game will simultaneously debut in September 2013.
The series is currently in production in Toronto, ON.
