The Newsroom Season Finale Sneak Peek: Does Nina Want to Help Mac?
The first season of The Newsroom has been one of the most polarizing seasons of television in recent memory. Not since the final season of LOST have there been so many arguments over the quality of a show. Some hate it, some love it, but the fact of the matter is that the series has maintained amazingly consistent ratings throughout its first season, and has been renewed for a second.
The season finale of The Newsroom, titled "The Greater Fool," is coming up on Sunday, and we already know from HBO's proliferation of the promotional trailers that it will feature a scene in which Leona Lansing (Jane Fonda) fires Will McAvoy (Jeff Daniels) after congratulating him for his good job on breaking the news of the death of Osama bin Laden. Now, it looks like we have a bit of context on that firing (which will inevitably be reversed).
A recently released sneak peek from the episode shows Mac (Emily Mortimer) having a secret meeting with Nina Howard (Hope Davis), who reveals to her that she has a source that says Will was high on the air the night bin Laden was killed (he certainly was). If she gets a second source, Howard says, she'll be forced to publish, although she doesn't want to.
Mackenzie, like the audience, really isn't sure whether or not to trust Nina, and that apprehension lasts well beyond the end of the promo. What sort of game of Nina playing here, and doesn't it feel like an inevitable betrayal is coming down the pike? And who is Nina's leak?

What are your thoughts? Will this be what gets Will fired? And what will get him out of this sticky situation?
The season finale of The Newsroom promises to be a rather tense one, it seems. The episode, titled "The Greater Fool," will air Sunday, August 26 at 10/9c on HBO.
