After some fantastic Star Wars send-ups on "Robot Chicken," it seemed an animated parody series from creators Seth Green and Matt Senreich was a can't miss. But with the recent publication of clips on IGN and elsewhere, that certainly doesn't seem to be the case. Even as parodies go, "Star Wars Detours" looks... pretty bad.
Tons of footage was released online following its unveiling at the Star Wars Celebration VI panel yesterday. The CGI animated series is set to take place between Episodes III and IV of the film series, bringing a lighter side to the galaxy far, far away. As show collaborator Todd Grimes (or "Grimey" as he no doubt likes to be called) put it, “Where do Gamorrean Guards grocery shop? Does Darth Vader do online dating? The answer is yes. We answer all these things.”
The clips range from the somewhat humorous (two Storm Troopers re-enacting the daring grappling hook escape by Luke and Leia in Episode IV) to the not-so-humorous (Han and Chewbacca behaving like an old married couple) to the downright embarrassing (Darth Vader rapping?).
One promising reveal from the panel was the news that Lando himself, Billy Dee Williams, would provide the voice for his animated alter ego, along with Anthony Daniels as C-3PO and Ahmed Best as Jar-Jar. Yes, Jar-Jar's in it.
Based on the trailer, what do you readers think of this forthcoming series?
