'The Mob Doctor' Promo Warns, "Be Careful Who You Owe"
The Mob Doctor is FOX's edgy medical drama replacement for House, and you know what? It actually looks pretty interesting. Though I don't know if I could bring myself to watch another modern day mob drama after having seen The Sopranos (especially on network TV), a new promo released for FOX's upcoming series actually has me fairly interested to see where the series goes.
The Mob Doctor follows Grace Devlin, a brilliant Chicago surgeon who owes a family debt to the mafia. Her work at the bright, clean hospital is contrasted with her grimy work removing bullets from injured mobsters -- a job she takes no pleasure in, but must do to protect her family.
In a new promo released for the upcoming series, a voiceover by Devlin (Jordana Spiro) explains to us her quandry, matched with a well-shot walkthrough through the various aspects of her life. "Be careful who you owe," she warns the audience as an elderly gangster tells her that it's time to get to work.
The promo ends with a rather clever graphic that I really like; a pill bottle tipping over and spilling bullets. It's a clever twist on the overused visual, and I found myself, against my better instincts, kind of wanting to tune in to this series.
Check out the promo below.
What do you think? Will you be tuning in to The Mob Doctor, or have you had enough of gangster/medical dramas on television?
The series stars Jordana Spiro, Zeljko Ivanek, William Forsythe, Jaime Lee Kirchner, and James Carpinello.
The Mob Doctor will premiere September 17 at 9/8c on FOX.
I’m wary of this show. I think there is a great deal of potential, but it could flop quickly. My coworker at Dish did point out there are a few major stars in the pilot like William Forsythe and Michael Rapaport guest starring. Whether it’s a great show or only on for a few episodes, I’ll DVR it. My new Hopper will actually record it for me automatically. It records all the shows in prime time from the four major networks without me setting a reminder. I really like the previews I hope they don’t try to do too much too quickly. I’ll be ready with the popcorn when it premiers.
