Deadline reports that SyFy is going north of the border for new network content, finalizing a deal to acquire the Canadian science-fiction drama "Continuum."

The high-concept series revolves around a police officer's struggles when a group of futuristic rebels from the year 2077, dubbed "Liber8," escape execution by time-traveling back to 2012. Film and television actress Rachel Nichols ("The Amityville Horror", "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra") stars as the police officer, Kiera, who was involuntarily transported back in time with the group of escapees. In order to prevent the rebel group from altering the dystopian future they fled from, Kiera joins the Vancouver police to keep the group in check. The Liber8 group, on the other hand, consider themselves freedom fighters against the Orwellian nightmare of 2077, where corporations maintain exorbitant power through the institution of a high-surveillance police state.
The series premiere saw very strong ratings in Canada, with its 900,000 total viewers making it Showcase's highest-rated episodic telecast ever. No doubt SyFy is hoping the trend will carry over stateside.
The series recently finished airing its first 10-episode season on Showcase, debuting May 27th to strong numbers. It was renewed for a 13-episode second season on August 25th and will begin production next year. No word yet on when the series is expected to air on SyFy.
Hey mcw, you're actually both right and wrong oddly enough. The Syfy mentioned in the previous article was actually the UK version of the channel. This article is referring to the show being acquired by the US Syfy network. Confusing I know, but too different things.
The pickup by Syfy was briefly mentioned in the last article about Continuum - tvrage /news/1755/continuum-renewed-for-second-season
"Syfy will be airing it on September 27, 2012"
