The Thick of It will be returning for its long-awaited fourth series, its first since the show went on break in 2009 for creator Armando Iannucci to dedicate some time to creating Veep, an American series of the same flavor of satire as his British government-lampooning Thick of It.
When The Thick of It returns, things will be very different for Malcolm Tucker (Peter Capaldi) and the like. A massive government changeover has occurred, with a new party stepping in and the old cast out. While Tucker, who finds himself out of power, will undoubtedly be fighting to get it back, the newly revealed subtitle for the series hints at some form of partnership between the leadership and the opposition.
A new promo for the fourth series reveals its proper title to be The Thick of It: Coalition, based on a buzzword one of the characters mentions. Of course, no one in this trailer looks even relatively calm enough to attempt a bipartisan effort -- except perhaps Malcolm Tucker, whose one-liner in this trailer is surprisingly not fueled with some red-faced rage.

The new subtitle makes sense. We spoke to Thick of It creator Armando Iannucci earlier this month, and he hinted about a coalition in the interview. "Series 4 is structured around events that cause momentum that bring the government and the opposition together," he told us. You can read the full chat with Iannucci here.
The Thick of It: Coalition will premiere September 8 on BBC Two in the UK and on Hulu in the US.
