New (old) faces returning to daytime TV

Ellen DeGeneres, Dr. Phil, Maury Povich and Jerry Springer, move over. New competitors are on your horizon, in the form of some familiar faces. The daytime talk rat race is ready to begin anew.

Katie Couric, Ricki Lake, Steve Harvey, Trisha Goodard and Jeff Probst are all headed back to the small screen. The Hollywood Reporter has a breakdown on all the new talk shows coming

Here is a brief look at each star's new vehicle (information taken from HR's article):

Stars: Katie Couric

Debuts: Sept. 10

What viewers can expect: The timely and topical show will blend information, stories of the day and entertainment, including interviews with newsmakers, celebrities and everyday people with unique stories. Topics will range from parenting to pop culture, aging to activism and sex to celebrity, with segments focusing on the worlds of family, fashion, entertainment and technology. Recurring pieces will include "Women Who Should Be Famous" and bucket list-themed "You Only Live Once."

The Ricki Lake Show

Stars: Ricki Lake

Debuts: Sept. 10

What viewers can expect: Lake, who is being touted as "America's girlfriend," will cover topics of interest to the modern-day woman with her "fresh, fun interesting" approach. "This is a new Ricki -- reflecting where she and her audience are now in their lives," according to Twentieth. Topics will include parenting, weight loss, health, beauty, career, losing love and finding it again.

The Jeff Probst Show

Stars: Jeff Probst

Debuts: Sept. 10

What viewers can expect: Probst aims to make his show informative, inspiring and fun, using his "honest, engaging style and incisive interview skills" as he explores hot topics, relationships, family dynamics, celebrities, newsmakers, families and individuals facing challenges and overcoming obstacles.

Steve Harvey

Stars: Steve Harvey

Debuts: Sept. 4

What viewers can expect: Harvey aims to help real people with real issues with his "funny, fresh, insightful and common sense approach." Topics will include marriage, dating, finance, parenting, workplace issues and friendship.

Trisha Goddard

Stars: Trisha Goodard

Debuts: Sept. 17

What viewers can expect: Goddard aims to help everyday people and their families struggling with tough issues. The show will cover topics of importance to women with what's being called "straight talk with a no-excuses mentality."

Do any of these shows excite you? Which will crash and burn first? Who will have the most success?

My guesses: No, Goddard, Couric.
