In a nicely calculated move by NBC, the full pilot episode of their new sitcom The New Normal is now available to watch in full on the network's website.
TV's once-mighty peacock obviously chose to strike while the iron was hot, as The New Normal has been in the news quite a bit since Utah NBC affiliate KSL declined to air the series last weekend. While the notoriously conservative station's refusal to air the show really isn't surprising, most American audiences aren't nearly as uptight about their TV programming, and the resulting publicity has definitely driven up interest in the comedy's premiere.
If you're somehow unaware, the show's premise is that a comitted gay couple in Los Angeles want to have a baby, and end up meeting a woman who agrees to be their surrogate. Also along for the ride are the mother-to-be's exisiting 8-year-old daughter, and her meddling grandmother (played by veteran actress Ellen Barkin).
So, if you missed the special "sneak peek" showing during the Olympics, here's the full pilot episode:
If you guys watch the pilot, please feel free to contribute your thoughts below. Personally, I think it looks like a Modern Family clone, but I haven't watched it, and could of course be completely wrong in that regard.
Edit: Hmmm, I'm positive I'm embedding this right, but it isn't showing up for some reason. Until I get it fixed, here's a direct link: http://www.nbc.com/the-new-normal/video/pilot/1415027/
