First John Cena, then cable television. Is there nothing that Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson can't conquer in 2012?

TNT has greenlit a new reality series that will feature Johnson, tentatively titled The Hero, per the Hollywood Reporter. The show will feature a reality competition to find the next great American hero.

Johnson will host the series, and executive produce with his partner and ex-wife, Dany Garcia. The series is scheduled to premiere in January.

Ten ordinary people will live together in a house and be challenged physically, mentally and morally. One by one, the show will whittle down the wannabe heroes until only one remains. The series will tie in closely with social media, as viewers will vote for the "most heroic" weekly.

"The Hero is a great fit for TNT's drama fans, whether they enjoy stories with a lot of action, suspense and danger, or stories that offer inspiration through the heroic actions of everyday people," said Michael Wright, president, head of programming for TNT, TBS and Turner Classic Movies. "We're also very excited about the extensive social-media aspect of The Hero, which will engage viewers on an entirely new level and develop a strong emotional investment in the competitors and challenges."

On Twitter, Johnson told his followers "Let's have some fun. ."

What do you make of this news? Does it appeal to you? Or does Dwayne have to come lay the smack down to get you to watch?
