'Honey Boo Boo' and Bill Clinton tie in ratings (on CNN at least)

As it turns out, former President Bill Clinton was the man to finally knock "Here Comes Honey Boo Boo" off of its ratings pedestal.

Bill Clinton, Barack Obama

“Here Comes Honey Boo Boo’s” ratings have been rising for the past month since its debut, but Wednesday’s episode pulled in 2.4 million viewers, which was a 20 percent drop from the previous week according to Nielsen overnights. The episode had the second-highest audience out of five installments.

“Honey Boo Boo” took a smaller hit in the adults 18-49 demographic, falling about a tenth of a point to a 1.1 adults rating.

While that’s not a reason for TLC to panic, it’s sure to give the show’s haters some ammunition. The show did beat all individual broadcasts of the Republic National Convention in the key demographic during the 10 p.m. hour.

“Honey Boo Boo” did tie CNN’s coverage of the DNC- including Clinton’s speech- and also syndicated “Big Bang Theory" re-runs. It only trailed NBC’s NFL season opener on all of TV, though the aggregate coverage of the DNC eclipsed “Honey Boo Boo” by all measurements, as the DNC was on for the whole 10 p.m. hour, while “Honey Boo Boo” was only on from 10 to 10:30 p.m.

To be fair to Ted, the full article clearly states that the tie was specifically between Honey Boo Boo and CNN's coverage of Clinton's speech. And TV ratings are determined network by network, not by adding all the different airings of an event over multiple networks. That said, I can completely understand how the article's title might seem misleading, so I've edited it on Ted's behalf. I can assure you that it wasn't the intention of the piece.

Actually, this misleading statistic only includes the number of viewers watching Clinton's speech on CNN. Add the other networks together, and you get 25.1 million viewers watching President Clinton's speech. That's over ten times the viewer turnout for Honey Boo Boo.

Having seen a few clips of Honey Boo Boo, I can confidently say that the show is so bad that it makes Jersey Shore seem semi-intelligent. It's a damn shame that this type of "let's laugh at the idiots" reality show is beating any type of political convention in the ratings. One is about electing the next leader of the free world, the other is about people so stupid that they make many normal southerners embarrassed to be from the same part of the country.
