Though he has left his daytime show after 23 years, Regis Philbin is still trying to stay relevant.
Funny or Die has released a new clip which features the 81-year-old running afoul of the cast of Fox’s “New Girl” as a new cast member, and later writer and director.
In the clip Philbin has a problem with Max Greenfield, who plays Schmidt on the show.
"There's a bus, it goes off the embankment, kills Schmidt ... kills him dead," Philbin pitches the writers. "And the next episode... business as usual! You understand that?”
“Looks like it’s curtains for old Schmidt,” Nick (Jake Johnson) says in a Regis-written scene, as the character is found in a pool of blood, killed off by Lamorne Morris (Winston)
“They were right about the broad, though," Philbin says. "That Zooey? Dynamite. A firecracker. A cold I’d like to catch.” He also constantly mispronounces Deschanel’s first name
Fox has previously only released a very short clip from the new season, featuring Jess (Deschanel) assisting Schmidt in scratching an itch in his awkwardly-constructed penis cast, stemming from an injury he sustained last season.
“New Girl’s” second season being Sept. 25 on Fox at 8 and 9 p.m.
