Well, you knew it had to happen eventually. Producers of the musical sensation "Glee" have released a cover of the pop sensation of the year to whet audiences' appetites for the upcoming fourth season.
While Carly Rae Jepsen's "Call Me Maybe" was released in September 2011, it was just getting a foothold in the pop charts as "Glee"'s third season was winding down. After a summer full of colorful covers it was only natural that the TV high schoolers would put their stamp on the pop hit.
Fox has posted the full cover of the "Call Me Maybe" performance which will air on the upcoming season. The song is covered by New Directions singers Brittany (Heather Morris), Blaine (Darren Criss), Tina (Jenna Ushkowitz), and Wade "Unique" Adams (Alex Newell) while glee club vet Artie (Kevin McHale) looks on with a critical eye. With Rachel (Lea Michele) now graduated and off to school in New York, the new blood is vying to fill her shoes.
Jepsen's single has been covered by seemingly everyone, including the Miami Dolphins cheerleaders and Carly Rae herself with back-up from Jimmy Fallon and The Roots. Quite honestly, the "Glee" cover is among the more tepid, though passable versions I've seen, but really after Cookie Monster covers something there's no hope of topping it.
