In news that sounds like a joke, but isn't (but kind of is for reasons I'll go into), ABC first brought us "Once Upon A Time" and now has agreed to go to "A Kingdom Far Away." This reporter can only speculate that a forthcoming series pick-up will be "And They Lived Happily Ever After" to complete the fantasy phrase trifecta.
Indeed, Deadline reports that after seeing resounding success with the Ginnifer Goodwin "Once Upon A Time" series, the network is banking on similar success in another fairytale/fantasy-themed series from feature writer Justin Marks. "A Kingdom Far Away" follows a quirky family living in the typical fantasy landscape of monsters and magic, with the destiny of one character poised to change their lives forever.
Unfortunately, Marks' feature credits include one of the worst movies of all-time, "Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li," which features one of the most comically bad, cheesy performances ever from actor Chris Klein. While the performance was Ridiculous Cage levels of bad, much of the blame lies squarely on the shoulders of Marks' tepid script. Perhaps his writing chops were not fully on display in that feature, as he has numerous penned projects in development. SyFy commissioned the action-thriller pilot "Rewind," which involves a team of military field operatives who travel through time to alter past events with the goal of avoiding a devastating terrorist attack.
Will the development of "A Kingdom Far Away" have a happy ending?
