When you ride with the Sons of Anarchy Motorcycle Club - Redwood Original (SAMCRO), you can't slow down. Viewers have apparently started to figure that out, as the debut episode of the fifth season drew its all-time highest rating Tuesday night.
The series, which is already the most-watched in FX history, drew 5.47 million viewers for the 10 p.m. EST viewing, with 3.5 million of them being in the 18-49 demographic.
The show was the top rated cable broadcast on the night and grew 10 percent among total viewers when compared to last season's record-setting premiere. The episode is projected, when all the numbers have been crunched, to be FX's biggest single telecast ever.
“It’s so rare, especially in the current fragmented environment, to see a show grow into its fifth season,” said FX Networks president and general John Landgraf. “The fact that the season five premiere episode is also likely to become FX’s highest rated telecast of all time is a testament to the quality of work Kurt Sutter, the writers, directors, cast and crew have done on this extraordinarily ambitious and riveting drama.”
If you count the two encores, the premiere had more than 7.5 million viewers.
Sons of Anarchy has already been renewed for a sixth season to air in 2013.
Are you riding with SAMCRO yet? What did you think of the premiere? I didn't see it, but I heard it was crazy - in a good way.
