Fox’s musical series returns tonight, and its co-creator says it has a new lease on life.
Glee’s fourth season will see core characters Rachel Berry (Lea Michele), Kurt Hummel (Chris Colfer) and Finn Hudson (Cory Monteith) leave Ohio and go forth into the real world.
There will also be new blood infused into the show, with the return of “Glee Project” season one winners Alex Newell and Samuel Larsen, as well as newcomers Dean Geyer (Brody), Jacob Artist (Jake), Melissa Benoist (Marley) and Becca Tobin (Kitty). The series will also have a multiple episode arc for Kate Hudson and Sarah Jessica Parker.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, co-creator and executive producer Ian Brennan said there was talk of doing a spinoff, but that it seemed better to do both the New York and Lima storylines during season four. “So much of the show is about telling high schoolers to follow their dreams- you actually want to see your main character go through with it and be the big fish in a small pond to be a big fish in the biggest pond ever: New York City. It seemed like that was what we owed the audience.”
“Glee” airs tonight at 9 p.m. on Fox.
