Uncle Phil joins The Young and The Restless

Bel Air, California, is a ways away from Genoa City, Wisconsin, but lucky daytime viewers are going to learn that the two have something in common - James Avery.

Avery, who starred with Will Smith on NBC comedy The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, will be hitting Genoa City when he appears on CBS' The Young and The Restless, with his episodes beginning to air October 12. It is unknown how long his run on the show will be.

Avery's unnamed character will be appearing as a judge - fitting, seeing that is what he played on the Fresh Prince. His judge on the soap opera will be overseeing a very important trial.

Avery has worked steadily since the Fresh Prince ended. His most recent roles include spots on Grey’s Anatomy and Harry’s Law.

He also had a recurring role on The Closer.

Additionally, he has appeared on CSI, Eli Stone, Star Trek: Enterprise, NYPD Blue, That '70s Show, Charmed, Reba, Crossing Jordan and Dharma & Greg.

Still, would it kill Will Smith to toss the guy a bone and get him a spot in one of his blockbusters? He couldn't have had a role in Men In Black 3? Or found Smith's body in Seven Pounds?
