It's tough to find a showrunner who interacts with his fans as much as Fringe's J.H. Wyman does. The longtime executive producer -- and sole showrunner since Jeff Pinkner's departure earlier this summer -- is currently hard at work bringing us the thirteen episode fifth and final season of the FOX sci-fi series, which premieres later this month. But when he takes a break from churning out scripts or overseeing an entire network television show, Wyman tweets with the show's fans, revealing new bits of information along the way. Sometimes the information is pretty revealing, as it was earlier today when Wyman posted three photos from the show's upcoming season.
As with the photos Wyman released last month, these pics take place sometime after the Fringe team frees Olivia (Anna Torv) from the amber that she is trapped in. The darkly lit photos feature Olivia, Walter (John Noble), and Olivia's daughter Etta (Georgina Haig), apparently getting used to the new surroundings and people of 2036. The photos are moodily lit, and capture the gritty vibe that Fringe will likely be emitting throughout its fifth season.
Yesterday, a set of promotional photos from the first episode, "Transilience Thought Unifier Model-11" were released, showing the team finding the amber-bound Olivia and covertly rescuing her while trying to void the Observers' watchful eyes. It's unknown whether or not the photos that Wyman posted come from the premiere or from the second episode "In Absentia" (or, really, any episode after that), but they certainly give some idea of the family drama that will underpin the future dystopia of 2036.
Check out those photos below. They're dark, but what do you think?
Fringe season 5 will premiere on Friday, September 28 with the episode "Transilience Thought Unifier Model-11" on FOX.
