There are Emmys for daytime or primetime at night,
There are Emmys for news on the Middle East plight,
Emmys for reporting sports’ gridiron fight,
Some are heavy and golden, some smaller and light.
“There are even more Emmys!?” I said with a start
Upon reading the winners from the ‘Creative Arts.’
The Seussisms aside, WOW there are a lot of Emmy Awards. Last night saw the 64th Creative Arts Emmy Awards ceremony, where the awards are presented for technical achievements in American television. It’s a chance for the people who make television look as good as it does from behind the scenes to get some recognition from their hard work. With categories like Exceptional Merit in Documentary Filmmaking and Outstanding Art Direction in a Multi-Camera Series, you can understand why the awards themselves don’t cause quite as much of a stir as the Emmys we all tune in to see every year, but the shows we love are made possible by the people who packed the Nokia Theatre last night, so let’s show some respect!
The big news coming out of the proceedings was the sheer dominance of HBO’s ‘Game of Thrones,’ which cleaned up the competition and took home eight awards. When you consider just how good and immersive ‘Game of Thrones’ looks each and every episode, it’s not surprising that they took home the awards for Outstanding Costumes for a Series, Outstanding Make-Up for a Single Camera Series and Outstanding Special Visual Effects.
Other big winners at last night's ceremony include Showtime's 'Homeland,' which won Outstanding Casting for a Drama Series, and CBS' 'Undercover Boss' which took home the Outstanding Reality Series statuette.
