MTV unveiled the nominees for its European Music Awards this morning and pop music ruled the day.
The awards, which will be aired from Frankfurt, Germany's Festhalle on November 11, could be renamed the Rihanna and Taylor Swift Happy Fun-Time Music Hour (I admit, it is not that catchy). Rihanna led the way with six nominations, while Swift was right behind her with five. Other multiple nominees include Justin Bieber and Katy Perry with four nominations a piece, and Lady Gaga, fun., Lana Del Rey, Nicki Minaj and Carly Rae Jepsen each landing three nominations.
The two ladies that lead the pack will go head to head for best female, best pop title, as well as the brand new best look category, which puts trend-setters up against one another to highlight (MTV's words here) "unique and eye-catching personal styles" from world music.
Last year the Biebs cleaned up, winning the best male and best pop categories. This year he also earned nominations for best world stage and biggest fans.
Also coming back this year will be the best electronic category, as apparently electronic music has experienced a resurgence recently.
Other EMA nominees include Kanye West and Jay Z, who are each up for three nominations, while Green Day, Gotye, Pitbull, Rita Ora, Flo Rida, Muse, Arctic Monkeys, Jack White and One Direction are up for two awards.
At this time, MTV has not announced EMA performers and presenters. They will do that in the coming weeks.
World-wide readers, do you watch the EMA? Is it a good show?
