The second season of Showtime's critically acclaimed drama series Homeland is slated to premiere later this month. We've already been treated to the first twenty minutes of September 30's season premiere, "The Smile," which saw Carrie being called back in to work for the CIA after one of her old contacts in the Middle East claims knowledge of a terrorist attack but will only speak to Carrie.
On Monday, the synopsis for the episode was released, telling us a bit of what we already knew but also giving us some hints at things we don't. "A former asset threatens Carrie’s peace; Brody learns Nazir may not be happy with a nonviolent approach; Dana lets a secret slip," are the three sentences given to us by the press release. We knew the first sentence from the 20-minute sneak peek mentioned above, and the second has been hinted throughout most of the promotional material for the season. Even though Brody's name is being floated for Vice President, Nazir might not be happy with that (though why not, it's hard to tell).
The third clause in that synopsis is pretty interesting, though. Brody's daughter Dana apparently lets a secret slip. And, when you think about it, there's only one real secret that Dana knows worthy of being a major plot point, and that's the fact that Brody has converted to Islam. The more important question is who she reveals this to. If she tells her mother, we're in for some lost trust and some fracturing of the Brody's currently happy home life. But if she lets slip to her boyfriend Xander or any of her friends at school, well, it could be a PR disaster for Brody's political hopes. That seems like a pretty major step for the series to take, so let's stick with her telling Jessica.
