TV developing American Idol-esque show for science/technology genuises

Attention science and technological geniuses: your time is now. of the Black Eyed Peas is working to develop a show similar to American Idol to give those people their chance in the spotlight.

In remarks given at the IBC technology conference in Amsterdam, he said that the talent pool for shows like American Idol, The Voice and The X Factor is shrinking rapidly. But that the format would work beautifully to give some innovative people a launching pad.

“Every year, companies like Google need more innovators, but there is no content celebrating them,” he said. “The system thinks people are dumb and they don’t care. We have no desire to make them care. We need creative people working with broadcasters, making smart content to inspire people to be geniuses.”

No pilot has been ordered for the show, but he says he has negotiated with broadcasters and the show will look "like nothing we've seen before."

The musician is passionate about STEAM -- science, technology, engineering, arts and math -- and made education about those areas one of his top priority. He recently teamed-up with NASA and the Curiosity rover to release a solo track, "Reach for the Stars," which debuted on the surface of Mars. Reach for the Stars, a Discovery SCIENCE channel documentary  that covers that song's broadcast, will debut tomorrow night at 10 p.m. EST/PST.
