NBC's The New Normal has added two actresses to play a lesbian couple. The L Word's Leisha Hailey and Entourage's Constance Zimmer will be joining the series, which has already drawn criticism and been dropped by certian NBC affiliates.
Zimmer will play Tiffany, an accountant who is in a long-term relationship with Victoria (Hailey). The couple will appear in the seventh episode of the season as a could that is tight with Bryan and David (Andrew Rannells and Justin Bartha).
The Big C co-star John Benjamin Hickey will guest star in the same installment as a "pivotal" character. No other details about his character have been released, though.
Co-creator Ali Adler said that the series would add a lesbian couple, to help put a spotlight on all the different types of families there are.
"We're trying represent all different kinds of families, parents and friends and certainly that is an area we would explore," she said. "We hope to see them soon as an ongoing part of the show. They're friends and also have a working relationship but we'll see them coming up down the line."
Hailey spent six seasons playing the openly gay (and outspoken) Alice on Showtime's lesbian drama The L Word.
Zimmer appeared recently on Netflix's original series House of Cards.
The New Normal airs Tuesdays at 9:30 p.m. EST on NBC.
