Is it time to learn who is the “mother” on CBS comedy “How I Met Your Mother?” Many fans may answer yes, but don’t want the show to end. TV Line reports that it doesn’t look like a bright future for the show, now on its eighth season.
According to the website, co-creators Craig Thomas and Carter Bays admit that they are not planning on a season after number eight. “We’re writing this season like it’s the end," Thomas said.
Critics are confused as CBS President Nina Tassler told press at the Television Critics Association summer press tour that CBS looks forward to a ninth season. "They know we want the show to come back next year. We're not there in terms of resolving the season,” she said. “We're in early conversations and we're pretty optimistic."
Both creators explained that it is important for the “mother” to be revealed in the eight season in order for the show to continue moving forward. Regardless, they plan to just continue forth as if the show will wrap up this year. "They really need to figure it out because the writers need to know," he said. "They're the pressing issue right now because they have to figure out if they're wrapping up the show at the end of season eight or season nine. [We've] just very recently been approached about that and we really can't say either way right now."
Thomas added that it’s “exciting” thinking that eight could be the last season because they can finally answer all the questions fans have been wondering for the better part of the last decade. “Every episode of the season is so much more important because of that. [That's] something sort of thrilling and very nostalgic and sad to think about, but it’d be exciting to write.”
Let’s just hope they don’t leave out details from any of the hints they’ve dropped throughout the first seven seasons.
