The West Wing Cast Reunites In New Political Ad

President Josiah Bartlet

Running for seven years and 156 episodes, the Aaron Sorkin created political drama The West Wing was both a critical and commercial smash for the majority of its run. When the series was finally canceled in 2006, many fans weren't quite ready to say goodbye to President Bartlet, Toby, Josh, and the rest of the White House staff. Now, in a special election year treat, a large portion of the show's cast has reunited for a new political web ad, albeit for only a few minutes.

The intended purpose of the video in question is to raise awareness of the fact that a large number of Americans that utilize the "straight party ticket" voting options at the polls, may in fact be accidentally leaving part of their ballots blank. Those parts being the "non-partisan" sections, which cover important state and local issues, including the election of state supreme court judges (in the states that decide such things by the popular vote).

While the video is in large part a non-partisan voter awareness campaign, there is also a smaller ulterior motive at work. West Wing cast member Mary McCormack was very instrumental in putting together the reunion, partly because her sister Bridget is running for the Michigan state Supreme Court, and she wanted voters to know not to skip that section on election day.

Anyway, ulterior motives or not, I think West Wing fans will just be happy to see the old gang doing one of their famous high speed "walk-and-talks" one more time. It's just a pity the video isn't longer.

Are you happy to see The West Wing cast back in the White House?

Just finished "The Dogs of War" - S5. WB need to do another series of the calibre of West Wing, I miss the pathos and machinations of this series and there are no other programmes on air that come anywhere near the quality of this show. I still relish the proffesionalism of this production and crave for another one to come along that matches it (but I doubt that will ever happen)- Thankfully my DVD sets havnt given up after at least 11 viewings right through from S1 to S7. Lance, Western Australia, AUSTRALIA.

I just had a marathon last week, watching the 720p version (watching The Newsroom's season finaly gave me a craving for it). I really miss it too.

I'm Rick Truell and I approve that video!!  Yes, it's great to see the whole gang back together again, even if only for a few moments.  And unlike Anonymous, I *do* know how much I miss the show.  However, any time I miss it too much, I can easily get a "fix"...I have the entire show on DVD!
