2012 Primetime Emmy Winners Announced: What Was the Most Shocking Moment of the Night?

The 64th Primetime Emmys aired Sunday night, and for the most part, they went just about as expected. Modern Family took home the top comedy prize (and several of the acting trophies), while Game Change and Hatfields & McCoys swept the miniseries/TV movie categories. Aaron Paul nabbed a win for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama in the toughest category of the year, which was unexpected but ultimately welcome.

The big winner of the night was undoubtedly Homeland, though. The Showtime series nabbed not only the top two drama acting awards, but also snagged the Best Drama award, ending Mad Men's four-year streak as Best Drama. The shocking win was Showtime's first Best Series win, and was undoubtedly the biggest moment of an otherwise rather bland night.

It is interesting to note that neither networks FOX and NBC had no winners at all tonight.

You can check out TVRage's live tweeting of the event here.

Watch Homeland before you start crying for Cranston.

Cranston and Esposito got robbed. Big time. Lewis and Paul are both great actors no doubt, but Cranston and Esposito gave the performances of their careers last year. And nice job by the academy picking the least deserving of all the nominees to win lead actor in a comedy.
