Over the course of The Simpsons' twenty plus year run, our favorite family has traveled to pretty much every possible place on Earth. Homer even became a NASA astronaut and left the planet behind in "Deep Space Homer." With the twenty-fourth season almost upon us, you might be wondering if the Simpsons' writing staff can possibly come up with another destination to add to the show's gigantic travelogue. The answer is (as Duff Man would say) "Oh Yeah!" Next spring, Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie will be heading to a completely different galaxy entirely.
In fact, the family won't just be going to any normal planet, they'll be headed to the home planet of "Treehouse of Horror" mainstays Kang and Kodos. The episode will mark the very first time that the two perpetually slobbering aliens have appeared on a non-Halloween Simpsons broadcast. Fans will finally get to learn more about Kang and Kodos' day to day lives, see where they live, meet their families, and possibly find out why they have made so many visits to Springfield over the years.
If you, like me, are wondering just how the Simpsons manage to get from Springfield to wherever it is the aliens are from, producers say that it involves a souped up amusement park rocket ride called "Journey To Your Future." Beyond that, the mechanics of the trip aren't clear. Then again, this is the show that perfected the use of negative continuity in television comedy, so I doubt the specifics will really matter in the end.
