Nat Faxon and Dakota Johnson may not be related, but they bonded quickly when it came to filming their new sitcom Ben and Kate. The show follows a carefree brother, Ben, as he moves in with his sister and her daughter to get his life together, while bonding with his estranged sister.
Despite not knowing each other before filming, Nat told Access Hollywood that things were always "natural" between the pair. “It felt like Dakota and I had known each other a long time, rather than a few days,” he said. “We are close enough now that Dakota feels it’s OK to say how long my ear hair is, out loud, to a large group of people. THAT’S how comfortable we are!”
Dakota added, “We have a — is there a word for a sibling sort of relationship?” Then laughed, “Siblingry!” Ben and Kate closely follows the lives of the brother and sister as they grow closer, but this isn't without a little help from friends. Echo Kellum plays Ben's friend and Lucy Puch is Kate's best friend.
36-year-old Nat auditioned "a long time ago" for the part, but pushed the project to the side while he co-wrote the Oscar nominated film "The Descendants." Dakota on the other hand is the 22-year-old daughter of Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson. She first appeared in "21 Jump Street" and "The Social Network" before landing the gig.
“I got the ‘Ben and Kate’ script one night and met with everyone the next morning,” she told reporters at the TCA Fall Preview party. “They gave me 15 or 20 pages of sides to memorize. Then Nat and I read together, and it was awesome. That night they called and offered me the role: ‘And, by the way, can you be in rehearsal at noon tomorrow?’ So it all happened in like 24 hours.”
Ben and Kate premieres Tuesday on Fox.
