As a veteran, it pains me to say this, but there is a train wreck coming and it involves our military.
ABC has acquired the rights to a new singing competition, as apparently The Voice, American Idol, The X Factor, America's Got Talent, the upcoming The Winner Is..., The Next, etc., was not enough to satisfy the singing itch we all have. This one's catch is that it is going to involve current and former service members only to decide which is the best (obviously, the winner will be from the Army).
The new series will be called Troupe Stars (get it? Service members are called troops; a troupe is a musical group...yeah.) The series has been approved for eight episodes, from 5 Streams Global Entertainment. The Department of Defense has to approve anything like this and currently they have authorized the military personnel to participate in the show, but the government is not actively involved. If I had to fashion a guess from my years in the service, I imagine the military is going to try to show us a different side of being a service member with this and use it as a recruiting tool. Everything becomes a recruiting tool.
No premiere date has been announced.
