When you put two divas in a room, it's only natural that rumors would start that the two can't get along. That's exactly what is happening on the set of American Idol as judges Nicki Minaj, Mariah Carey, Randy Jackson and Keith Urban are making the first rounds as season 12 judges. According to insiders, Nicki and Mimi aren't quite seeing eye-to-eye do to attendance problems and overall lack of respect.
However, Nicki told Access Hollywood she respects Mariah and just wants to make quality TV. “Mariah’s a legend and I just want to say that… I’m sitting next to woman who’ve I looked up to since I can remember enjoying music. My mother and I bonded to Mariah and I told her that, before even ‘American Idol,’” she said. “It’s obvious that we both have strong personalities, but ultimately, there’s respect there and I think if nothing else, it’ll make for really great TV.”
She added, “This season will be like you’ve never seen it before and I have to honestly say that.” When asked if fans can expect at least one slap this season Nicki would not confirm or deny. “I’m under contract… I can’t say, but yes – knowing me – there’ll be a slap somewhere in this season!” Nicki laughed. "You know what; I’m just trying to nullify my diva-ness right now. I just wanna not be a diva at all.”
American Idol returns to Fox in January.
