Imagine being one of Jimmy Kimmel's parents. It had to feel great watching him at the Nokia Theatre during the Emmys. You have watched him give away Ben Stein's money and stare at women's bodies on The Man Show. After years of struggling to find an audience and his voice on late night, things are looking up. He is going to compete head-to-head against David Letterman and Kimmel's best friend, Jay Leno (sarcasm-alert).
Then, showing off his love of pranking, he boots you out of the theatre.
During the broadcast, Jimmy yelled out to his mom Joan and dad Jim, telling them how hurt he was that he had not won for best variety show. Calling them liars, he had them ejected from the theatre because they had previously told him he could do anything he set his mind too.
Sure enough, real security guards showed up to hoist them up and out of the theatre. Joan insisted later in the night that it was not a bit and they were not in on it.
Security would not let them return to their seats for half-an-hour. However, eventually they were allowed to return and then partied the night away at Kimmel's Soho House party until late in the morning.
