As series are beefing up their cast for the upcoming season and actors are claiming the guest starring spots that could land them Emmy nominations, 'The Mentalist' from CBS has decided to join in the fun. Fresh off of a season on 'Scandal,' Henry Ian Cusick ('Lost') has agreed to appear on a three-episode arc of the Crime-Procedural Drama in a juicy part for any actor: he gets to be the bad guy.
Cusick will appear on 'The Mentalist' as Tommy Volker, a multi-millionaire playboy (are there any multi-millionaires who aren't playboys, in television? In real life we have Bill Gates) who comes under suspicion of murder after a nosey television reporter drops dead. Patrick Jane will match wits with Volker, giving 'The Mentalist' star Simon Baker some new blood to play off of in the five-season series.
On 'Scandal' Cusick played Stephen Finch, a member of the crisis management team at Olivia Pope's consulting firm. Previously on 'Lost,' Cusick was nominated for an Emmy Award for his portrayal of the unsubtly-named Desmond Hume, one of the series most popular characters. While his acting chops are well-proven and his dues have been paid, I am excited to see him sink his teeth into Volker, a character who sounds more devious and deceitful than the stalwart good-guys we've seen.
'The Mentalist' New Season premieres September 30 at 10:00pmEST.
