Realtor. Investor. Reality TV star. Author. Now music mogul?
Donald Trump isn’t afraid to tell someone “You’re fired!” on “The Apprentice,” but it appears he’s responsible for kick starting the career of one of pop music’s most successful artists to date. According to Trump, he is responsible for launching Lady Gaga into superstardom.
In his new biography, “Time to Get Touch: Making American #1 Again,” Trump explained that he owns the Miss Universe pageant where Lady Gaga got her start. “About four years ago, during what you call half-time, we always have an entertainer,” he wrote. “We’ve had a lot of great people, and you don’t pay them anything because it’s one of the biggest audiences and my people told me, ‘Nobody knows who she is, but there’s this woman with good talent named Lady Gaga.”
Trump agreed to add her to the bill. Lady Gaga performed “Just dance” and set the crowd ablaze. “Nobody was talking about Miss Universe, everybody was talking, ‘Who was the woman, who was the entertainer? She was unbelievable,’” he shared. In his eyes, Lady Gaga is still “gracious” about it. Now the real question is, does the rest of the world thank him?
The Billboard end of the year list recently slapped Lady Gaga with the “most overrated” title, suggesting that everyone is slowly getting over her. Sure, she can sing and dance. Her songs are good, but she focuses too much on being “out there” than truly talented. Many people view her as a Madonna wannabe, with fellow popstar Katy Perry not too far behind.
Regardless how you see it, Trump played a part in changing pop music forever.
