Have they finally run out of ideas?
For 24 seasons, The Simpsons has been known for the unique "couch gags" during the opening credits as the family converges onto the couch to watch TV. Now, the long-running FOX animated series is asking fans to submit their original ideas for the iconic sequence.
According to a statement on the official Couch Gag Contest website, "We've created hundreds and hundreds of Couch Gags during the past 20 years. Now it's your turn. Submit your written idea for a Couch Gag (100 words or less) to appear in the opening credits of The Simpsons, and if your idea is selected as the winner, we may actually animate it. And we may even air it during this season's finale in May 2013. Woo Hoo!"
The deadline for the contest is 11:59 pm on Thursday, November 15. In January of next year, the producers of The Simpsons will select up to three finalists' submissions and have them illustrated. These illustrations will be posted on the website and fans will have the opportunity to vote on which one they prefer.
The winning entry will have the honor of being brought to life by animation studio Film Roman, which provides the source animation for The Simpsons and has also worked on King Of The Hill, Garfield And Friends, Bobby's World, and a long list of other cartoon series. The victorious couch gag will then be broadcast during the opening credits of the Season 24 finale in May of 2013.
