Fringe 5.02 "In Absentia" Promo: "That's Not a Problem for Someone Who's Done Acid"

Fringe's post-apocalyptic fifth and final season kicked off on Friday with the season premiere "Transilience Thought Unifier Model-11." That episode saw Peter, Walter, Astrid, and Etta working together to rescue Olivia from amber, only to have Walter taken hostage by the Observers, who managed to destroy the key to defeating them hidden in his mind.

The next episode, titled "In Absentia," will see our heroes working to return to their lab at Harvard, which has been taken over by Observers.

"Well, that's not a problem for someone who's done acid," Walter retorts in a promo for the episode.

They eventually do make it back to the lab, only to discover that it's been ambered by someone. They also heavily interact with a human guard working for the Observers, whom Etta apparently tortures (she appears to be aging him somehow), causing her mother, Olivia, to be dismayed by the hardened woman her daughter has become.

"We have to win," Olivia (Anna Torv) says at the end of the teaser, "So that all the people that died didn't die for nothing."

You can check out the promo for "In Absentia" below.

What do you think of the season's new direction? Are you excited to return to the lab? Are you, like me, curious to see what exactly happened to Gene? Here's hoping we'll have the world's first ever ambered cow.

"In Absentia" will air Friday, October 5 at 9/8c on FOX.
