Black Eyed Peas frontman Will.i.am has always been a self-professed geek, especially when it comes to technology and cutting edge science. Whether it's being a part of the Mars rover landing or tackling his new role as director of creative innovation at Intel, the performer seems to have a kinship with all things scientific.
Now it appears the rapper is teaming with former "American Idol" host Simon Cowell to develop a talent show of a different variety.
“We’re working on a project called X Factor for Tech — and it’s going to be out of this world,” Will.i.am told the UK newspaper The Sun. "Singing and performance create a couple of jobs. But this will create lots. It’s about getting in touch with youth and giving them a platform to express themselves — whether that’s in science or mathematics.”
The two are hoping that the series will bring to light the exciting potential of scientific innovation, as well as potentially find the next Steve Jobs or Bill Gates.
While there are no official details of the show just yet, the description of "X Factor for tech" brings to mind shows where innovators pitch ideas to investors like "Shark Tank." One of my favorite (though short-lived) reality competitions was "American Inventor," which ran the gamut of new gadgetry and less-useful knicknacks. If the team of Will.i.am and Cowell can create a compelling show that revolves around former, sign me up as a devoted viewer.
