One thing is certain about last night's Presidential Debate: Jim Lehrer lost. Television talk show hosts, actors and producers weighed in with their thoughts on what was reportedly the most tweeted-about U.S. political event ever.
Bill Maher of HBO's "Real Time": "my rating: Romney won the debate, Obama had the facts on his side, and Lehrer sucked. Next debate, get @Seth MacFarlane to host!"
Patton Oswalt of "King of Queens" and an upcoming gig on "Justified": "Mitt won tonight. Sorry, everyone. It doesn't matter how many blazing lies he spewed -- all he needed to do was change the narrative. And he did it. This was Romney's Clubber Lang moment. Now Obama better go find his Apollo Creed and train. He's got three more."
Olivia Wilde ("House"), in response to Romney's statement of not wanting the federal government to tell him what kind of medical treatments he should receive: "Mittens, if you want the federal gov't out of our health care decisions, then stay the F out of our VAGINAS. #debate2012."
Chris Rock: "Obama is waiting for the right moment to pull out Bin Laden's skull from behind the podium. Wait for it. Wait for it... #debate#PresDebate."
Albert Brooks ("Weeds"): "Next debate will be moderated by Miss Piggy before she loses her job." And: "Between these two explanations of health care I don't know what the f--k is happening."
Dave Chappelle: "#romney just brought up Food stamps. And Obama looked like he wanted to Punch him in the face."
Roseanne Barr: "Undecided voters know this is a wash."
That last statement sums up my thoughts pretty well. Both candidates brought up interesting points and both played fast and loose with the facts. I would say Romney won, but I would also say Romney told more bold-faced lies like continuing to perpetuate the $700 billion "cuts" to Medicare and the "clean coal" myth. And yet, Obama fared no better, seeming to sleepwalk and stumble through a number of his responses.
What did you think of last night's debate?
