In the HBO supernatural drama's first major hire for its upcoming sixth season, True Blood has signed veteran actor Rutger Hauer as a series regular.
Although avid True Blood viewers might peg him to fill the mysterious role of an unseen vampire known as Warlow, Hauer will play a sinister character named Macklyn who has deep ties to Stackhouse siblings Sookie (Anna Paquin) and Jason (Ryan Kwanten).
This doesn't rule out the possibility of his character actually being Warlow, however, since we haven't seen his face and Warlow's first initial was identified as "M" during Season 5. Macklyn Warlow? Season 6 just got a hell of a lot more interesting with a world-class talent like Hauer in a major role.
For those of you who have been living under a rock, Hauer is most famous for his portrayal of the renegade human-like android, Roy Batty, who was in search of a longer lifespan in Ridley Scott's classic Blade Runner. More recently, the Dutch actor is known for his role in 2005's Batman Begins, where he played William Earle, the manipulative CEO of Wayne Enterprises.
He has previous experience portraying a nocturnal bloodsucker as Lothos, a local vampire king, in 1992's Buffy The Vampire Slayer. In addition, Hauer has appeared in a variety of films such as The Hitcher, Confessions Of A Dangerous Mind, Sin City, The Rite, and Hobo With A Shotgun.
As an original viewer of True Blood and a big fan of Rutger Hauer, this casting news has me pretty excited. Season 5 moved away from the endless Bill/Sookie/Eric love triangle and began to embrace a larger mythology. Hauer's character should play a big part in that. How do you see him fitting in?
