The campaign of President Barack Obama may be getting an unexpected boost two days before the presidential election in November. A movie about the killing of Osama bin Laden is scheduled to air on television the Sunday before the election.
The National Geographic Channel said that Sunday, Nov. 4 is the airdate for Seal Team Six: The Raid on Osama Bin Laden. The film, which is being directed by John Stockwell, is being produced by Nicolas Chartier (The Hurt Locker) and Harvey Weinstein, whose company bought the rights to the film at the Cannes Film Festival in May.
The timing of this release has to help Obama. The killing of bin Laden is one of the crowning achievements in Obama's first term, as he mentioned last night during the first presidential debate. Bin Laden was tracked down and killed in Pakistan on May 1, 2011.
Do you think this will give Obama a bump at all? Of all the claims Obama's camp makes, the death of bin Laden seems like the hardest to really challenge from Mitt Romney's side. It would be naive to suggest that this airdate is a coincidence. I wonder what other networks are going to try programing like this.
