Paula Abdul has been pretty quiet since leaving American Idol and The X Factor. Sure, she did Live to Dance, but I do not believe that really counts. But now Abdul is returning to what she knows best - judging! (Anyone who thought I was going to say singing should punch themself in the head.)
Abdul is going to appear on the October 15 Dancing With the Stars performance show, she announced during a pre-taped segment during tonight's episode.
"I've been sneaking into the show for years, and now I get to be a guest judge," said Abdul. "It's a marriage made in dancing heaven."
Abdul has made sporadic TV appearances since leaving The X Factor when it underwent its massive restructuring earlier this year. This is not a new full-time gig, just a one-time appearance, apparently.
The regular Dancing With the Stars panel -- Len Goodman, Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli -- rarely includes guests. Sometimes past champions and competitors have sat it though sometimes.
It is not a surprise that Abdul is doing this. She has choreography experience and really, really values her opinions. I could see her trying to leverage this into a full-time gig, but I doubt ABC would want her.
