Munsters Reboot Pilot to Air as Halloween Special

Previously, TV Rage reported on the post-production purgatory in which NBC's reboot of "The Munsters" was mired. The "Mockingbird Lane" pilot was thought to be all but dead, with NBC executives unhappy with the final product and creators disagreeing on how to fix things.

While the television graveyard is littered with unaired failed pilots, it appears NBC wants to recoup at least some of its substantial $10 million investment by airing the pilot as a Halloween special.

The pilot boasts a top dollar cast and crew. "Pushing Daisies" writer-producer Bryan Fuller and "X-Men" director Bryan Singer lead the charge behind the scenes, promising a unique spin on the classic comedy series. In front of the camera, the project appears just as impressive, featuring Portia de Rossi ("Arrested Development"), Jerry O'Connell ("Sliders"), and charismatic comedian Eddie Izzard ("The Riches", "Ocean's Twelve").

Now, with the pilot unlikely to be picked up for a series commitment, NBC has reportedly decided to air the stand-alone pilot on October 26th before its similarly-themed series "Grimm." The move seems to firmly cement NBC's up-to-now unconfirmed position of not putting in a series order, although if ratings and calls of the public are vocal enough perhaps it could breath new life into the project. I for one am curious to see what Singer and Fuller put together that has NBC executives so vexed.

I approve of this move. If they aren't going to put it to series, the least they should do is try to get some type of return on their investment with what they have already shot and produced. Especially if they blew 10 million bucks on it. I may even check it out, if only to see what NBC finds so off-putting about it.
